The Australia-Latin America Business Council (ALABC) presented Duratray International with a recognition award for 18 years of global business expansion from Australia at the ALABC annual dinner in Melbourne on Thursday, November 1st.
The award was presented to Duratray International Managing Director Marcelo Medel by the Ambassador of Chile in Australia HE Patricio Powell to acknowledge the company’s journey from the start of its operations in Australia back in 2001.
In his speech, Marcelo Medel thanked his team members and dedicated the award to them.
“This award is the results of thousands of hours of hard work and hundreds of people who have dedicated their lives to achieve Duratray’s goals and dreams”, he said.
Medel talked about the history of the company since acquiring Duatray from Pacific Dunlop 18 years ago and how Australia has been a great county to grow in.
“Since we established our headquarters in Victoria, Australia, our company has grown 20 times. We have opened branches in Brisbane, Perth, Canada, USA, Russia, South Africa, Chile and Peru, from where we export to Zambia, PNG, Ukraine, Kazakstan, Surinam, UK, Switzerland, Mongolia, Argentina and other 30 countries”, he stated.
At the end of his presentation, Medel touched on the importance of strengthening relations between Australia and Latin American countries.
“It’s clear we have a lot to offer each other, not just culturally, but through trade and investment opportunities. Great times are coming for our countries and I’m sure in 10 years’ time we will be proud to tell our people that while others where building walls between their countries, we built bridges between ours”, said Medel.
Hosted at PWC Melbourne, ALABC’s dinner celebrated the growing relationship between Australia and Latin American countries, spanning business, innovation, science and more.
ALABC’s annual Melbourne dinner was held after the last day of the 5th annual International Mining and Resources Conference and Expo (IMARC 2018), where Duratray International participated with a booth.
